On June 17th Brillion held their annual Relay of Life with 15 teams participating. This 12 hour walk was held at the Brillion High School track to raise money for the American Cancer Society. This year $43,288 was raised to help find a cure for cancer and help the people fighting cancer get through it with support and education.
The event starts out with a survivor walk around the track and this year we honored 43 survivors. They are the reason this event takes place in cities all around the world. Their participation inspires hope in those currently battling cancer. After the survivor lap all teams must have a minimum of one walker on the track at all times during the duration of the walk; there continues to be activities throughout the night at different times to keep the momentum going. At dusk Luminaries in Memory of loved we have lost and in Honor of for those who have won the battle and are survivors are lit around the track and there is a lap of silence for them after which every luminaria is spoken over the loud speaker. A very sober moment so we can again honor the strength and courage it takes to battle this disease and remember the ones who have lost their fight but will never be forgotten. In Brillion we sold 260 Luminaries; this just shows everyone has seen this disease affect someone they know and love and again brings the reason of why we need to raise money for this cause.
Professional Plating along with being a corporate sponsor for this event also supported 2 of the 15 teams that walked this night. Both teams had a special reason for walking, they support the cause because they have seen family members and friends win the fight and also lose the fight of this disease. This walk also signified a great deal of support from Professional Plating because two team members who worked at Professional Plating lost their battle with cancer, their courage and strength has inspired us all.
The support that was shown from Professional Plating not only meant a lot to the teams that participated but to everyone who receives the benefits of the American Cancer Society. Their motto for the year was “Fight for every Birthday” and by the amount that was raised I know we have helped for that fight. Enjoy and celebrate every Birthday!
